Article Zero

Our Mission

What we do, how we do it, and why it matters.

Our mission is to transform the scholarly into the accessible — to take the ideas, debates, and critiques that shape international law, politics, and economic development and bring them to anyone with questions and curiosity.

Academia, for all its depth, can often feel detached from the real world. Important ideas get locked behind paywalls, buried in jargon, or confined to conferences attended by a narrow audience. Meanwhile, the people most affected by these ideas — communities across the Global South navigating the consequences of international policy, trade agreements, debt structures, and legal frameworks — are rarely part of the conversation.

Article Zero exists to change that. We publish essays, reflections, and analyses that are rigorous but readable. Thoughtful but not inaccessible. Serious but never dry. Our goal is zero tolerance for the kind of gatekeeping that makes knowledge a privilege rather than a right.

What We Publish

We focus on three interconnected areas: international law, politics, and economic development — all viewed through the lens of the Global South. Our content is deeply informed by the Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL) movement, which challenges us to question who international law serves, how it was shaped, and what it leaves out.

Beyond Publishing

Our ambition goes beyond the written word. We aim to serve as a discussion and solution-making space — bringing together scholars, practitioners, and thinkers under the umbrella of Article Zero. We believe that real change comes not just from understanding problems, but from the collective work of imagining and building solutions.

Our Commitment to Human Writing

In an era of AI-generated content, we have made a deliberate choice: everything published on Article Zero is written by humans, for humans. We believe that authentic writing carries something that no algorithm can replicate — the texture of a real mind grappling with real questions. Every article is a piece of art, and we treat it as such.

“We share questions, reflections, and thought-provoking theories in a more accessible way — with zero tolerance for the barriers that keep important ideas from reaching the people who need them most.”
